Project: Rosie

Rose Michelle Joseph was born on May 21, 2007 in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. She was born with a sacrococcygeal teratoma. The doctors in Haiti gave her 20 days to live.  After sending her pictures to doctors in the states, they estimated she could live for 1-2 months. Haiti Foundation Against Poverty's team that went to Haiti this summer met Rosie when she was just 16 days old. Besides her tumor Rosie had scabies, and possibly cancer and hepatitis.  Our team began emailing doctors and friends asking for help and prayers! We were hoping to bring Rosie back to the states with us at the end of the trip, but she was testing positive for HIV which slowed down the medical visa process.

After many trials and prayers, Rosie was granted her emergency medical visa on July 6th!! She arrived in the states on July 14th and her medical testing began on the 16th.  On July 20th we learned that Rosie is actually negative for HIV, and Detroit Children's Hospital agreed to do her surgery!  On July 26th Rosie tumor was removed!

Rose Michelle was discharged from the hospital on Wednesday August 1st at 12:00pm.  Earlier that morning we also received test results stating that her tumor was benign!  She has since completely recovered from surgery and is being adopted by a wonderful family in Zeeland, MI.

Thank you for all of your prayers and support!  We are still in need financial support for Rosie's family in Haiti.  The foundation would like to provide shelter, food, and education for Rosie's mother and three siblings.  If you are willing to donate, please make checks payable to: Haiti Foundation Against Poverty.  You can send them to:
